International Women’s Day

The 8th March sees International Women’s Day return once again, and there are a large number of activities and special events happening across the globe in celebration of over 50% of the World’s population. Since the 18th March 1911 (the World’s first International Women’s Day), women took to the World’s stage and raised awareness of important contemporary issues facing Women and Girls, aiming to tackle political problems, such as women’s suffrage.

In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as the UN Day for women's rights and world peace, and over 35 years later, the celebration has gone from strength to strength; still relevant to the ever-changing face of Women in the media, and society as a whole.

Rosa
The organisation ‘Rosa’ is a U.K. fund for women and girls, and regards International Women’s Day as one of the most important days of the year when it comes to raising awareness of important issues facing women.

“Supporting grassroots initiatives, working for a fair and just society in which all women can thrive and reach their full potential” Is one of their main objectives, and through organising social and cultural events across the country, their voice is heard- raising awareness of issues that could, and do affect each and every woman and girl in the United Kingdom.

To mark International Women’s Day this year, Rosa are urging people to take part, or indeed organise their own fundraising events, with the theme 'Inspirational Women'. Whether it be a coffee morning, co-operative lunch or fancy dress, the World’s your oyster! And if you do decide to organise your own fundraising event, perhaps featuring a stellar cast of Vivien of Holloway frocks, don't forget to send us photos!

  1. Is this only available to those in the UK? I'm in the USA, so I am curious to know if I could be eligible.
